Well, it happened. My travels have led me to be placed in quarantine. Not because I'm sick, but because I have been in too many places so now I have to stay indoors for 14 days. This is rather unusual for a world traveling bear, but no problem! Spike and I have had some groceries delivered. Spike went to the library yesterday so we have plenty of books to read.
I think I will start this book Spike claims will help me truly understand his world, A Dog's Life. I asked if he had gotten A Bear's Life for his own reading butd he just laughed. For now, I think I will just kick back and enjoy the sunshine on our balcony before opening the book.
Tonight we are going to cook a wonderful meal of Thai food (fried rice) and enjoy the sunset view over Bangkok. Rather more laid back than we are used to!
I CAN'T BELIEVE SPIKE DID THIS TO ME! This book has absolutely nothing to do with a sight-seeing dog!
I did eat well again today. Fortunately I am an omnivore, so the bags of rice are tasty when cooked right. We have movies too. I think I am going to watch some Berenstein bears if Spike ever lets go of the remote.
Other than that, isolation isn't too bad. Although I think we're going to run out of honey and biscuits sooner rather than later. Oh, well. We do have some rice and dried fruits and stuff for me. Spike is planning on eating something besides rice. I'm not sure what.
I might have to read a dog book after all. Turns out, the only books Spike got from the library were dog books: Dog Man 1-9, A Dog's Life, Dog on a Log. You name it, it's about a dog. Except for The Cat in the Hat which he says is just really funny to him and a good example of why there is not a cat in our house. But, seriously? He couldn't get one book with a bear? Maybe I need to steal the remote and hide it. Or perhaps hibernation won't be bad. At least there is still plenty of rice and toilet paper. (Not that we really need that, but it seemed to be a popular item so we ordered some to be delivered with our groceries.)
I slept most of the last few days. Hibernation is boring. Not sure how grizzlies do it all winter. Or black bears. Or anything that sleeps for months at a time. I mean, I like a good nap as much as the next bear, but to do nothing but sleep and then sleep some more? It's not for me. I need to be out and about and seeing new places and meeting people.
Anyway, having fried rice again for dinner tonight. Stared at the empty streets for awhile, hoping to people watch. Nope. Everyone is inside. It's the hot season.
Bit of excitement today! Spike decided to exercise by walking up and down the fire escape stairs. Well, he was gone for a REALLY long time. The only way I noticed how long it was is that he wasn't back for snack time, and he never misses a snack!
It turns out that he got stuck. Yep. STUCK. In the stairwell. It turns out the doors don't unlock from inside the fire escape stairwell. Who knew? I luckily heard his barks and screams so was able to let him out. Other than that, we're doing the same things as yesterday. Steamed rice on the menu tonight.
That's it. I'm leaving Spike in the stairwell if he forgets to prop the door when doing his exercising again. I don't have time to go wait for him to scratch at the door to be let out of the stairwell. Okay. Maybe I do since there's nothing else to do, but I don't really WANT to wait outside the fire escape door while he bounces up and down the steps. Exercise for me: I walk to the kitchen, walk to the table where we now have a puzzle to assemble, and walk to the couch. Then I repeat these steps as often as necessary. I get some steps in, but I don't count them like Spike does. I'm sure it's like a few thousand...maybe...if I round up a lot.
I am wearing the remote around my neck so Spike can't have it. That's right. He no longer has control. I DO! No more adorable puppy movies. No more basketball playing dogs. Nope. It's the bear channel at the zoo. 24-7. He can read the rest of his dog books. And he had better not even think about telling me that we're having rice for dinner.
I had to do it. I had to. Spike actually came in from exercising and told me about the neighbors who were cooking hamburgers for dinner on their balcony. Yep. I climbed the balcony divide and took one. SOOO much better than buttered rice and frozen peas, which Spike was cooking for me. I'm not sure what he's been eating. He seems to be gaining a little weight. Secret stash of cookies, maybe? I will look around during his exercise tomorrow.
No one understands how difficult it is to live with one cute, sweet little bulldog until they've been forced to stay inside one little apartment for 10 days with that dog. I never noticed his bad habits before. Like the way he cleans himself. Me? I put on the shower and pretend it's a waterfall. Spike licks himself. Yes. That's right. How disgusting. I never saw him do this before, he took baths, but it's like he's regressing. Becoming a wild wolf or something.
Oh, and I found the stuff he was hiding in the freezer. Turns out he had a stash of beef burritos that he was eating after I went to bed every night. No more rice for me. Not unless he's eating it too. Who knew those little white grains could start appearing in my dreams to torment me?
Oh, it's on like donkey kong! Spike knows that I know that he's been holding out on me with the burritos. But he didn't seem to care when we each had one and now there are none left in the freezer. In fact, he looked a little too smug. Wonder what else he has hidden? I am on the hunt...and not a bear hunt...shhh...I think he remembered to prop the door today.
Okay, okay...it turns out that Spike wasn't hiding anything I would want to eat. Just a box of dog biscuits in the bottom of his travel suitcase in the back of the closet. I guess I have three days left of rice. Although it seems we misjudged the amount of rice we eat at a time. We could eat rice for the next six months. How do those people on the island lose weight eating rice? Haven't lost an ounce nor a gram. (I'm studying the metric system since that's what is used here in Thailand.)
On another note, I guess the Dog-Man books aren't too bad. If I was to be honest, and not mad that it wasn't Bear-Man in those books, I would have to admit to myself I wanted to laugh a bit when reading them. I refuse to read any more of A Dog's Life, though. I live with a dog so I don't need to know any more about his life.
Almost there. Nothing new. Spike made Thai Jok today. It's a rice breakfast porridge. Not bad. Stared out the window for awhile. Took a nap. Learned to crochet washcloths by watching videos.
Spike's a little upset that I unraveled his second favorite blanket to make the washcloths. I told him we could always use safety pins and connect the washcloths into a blanket if he needed it. He's not speaking to me now.
We almost are there! So long as we can keep from arguing about the remote, rice, books, rice, exercising, rice, crocheting, rice or anything connected to rice, we will survive!
Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!
Just in time for lockdowns to begin throughout Bangkok. We can leave the apartment, but we have no where to go.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
